Hair Product Haul

OK, so, I just got back from buying CHI Silk Infusion and CHI Infra Texture hair spray. I also got a diffuser for my dryer and a new large tooth comb with some hair pins and stuff. I'm going to do curly routines as well as straightening routines. I will do a review on the products as well.
Wish me Luck!

Causes of Frizz & How To Control it

Unfortunetaly, for those of us with naturally curly hair, it's dry by nature. We constantly need to maintain it by replenishing the moisture. When hair has no moisture, it goes in "search" of it, resulting in frizz. Frizzy hair is essentially empty hair. The bonds inside the hair shaft are disconnected. You need to connect those bonds with a combination of protein and moisture. Adding moisture and protein to your hair will help fill in the holes inside your hair shaft, making your hair less frizzy.

Conditioning is the main key to eliminating that frizz. When your hair has all the nutrients it needs, it will take on its own natural bounce and shine. You'll see more control in your curl and the frizz will be minimized. You will want to start out by giving it a good deep treatment. For really dry or frizzy hair, you will want to do this at least once every two weeks. Deep treatment works on the inner structure of your hair, filling in the "holes" in the hair shaft. Once those holes are filled in, your hair should lie down and not fly away as much. Because deep treatments start from the inside out, you won't see results right away. You will want to give it a good month, possibly longer to see any results. Along with the deep treatment, use a leave in conditioner on your hair every time you wash it. This will help detangle and condition those curls. Then, follow up with a good water soluble gel (as mentioned in my previous post).

Please, make sure you avoid hot oil treatments. Hot oil only coats the outer layer of your hair, it does nothing for the inner shaft, which is what causes frizz.

OK, so now a few rules, tool, tips and tricks!

1) Never brush your hair when it's dry. Doing so disrupts that curl pattern making it big, poofy and frizzy. Comb your hair only when its wet with a wide toothed comb.

2) Do not wash with shampoo everyday. You only want to rinse and condition everyday. Shampoo takes the moisture out. Try to shampoo twice a week. If you have an oily scalp, you can do more, but only when you feel its needed.

3) Pull your hair back in a cloth scrunchie or section hair and twist on the top of your head so your sleeping on the under curls. Keeping it together maintains the curls.

4) When its windy out, put your hair up. No amount of product will withstand wind. Leaving your hair down will only tangle your hair and toss it around.

Here is a GREAT article I found!!

Tips and Tricks for Curly Hair

Hair styling routine.
Here is a preferred way to style your hair:
After you get out the shower, I would recommend not wrapping it up in a towel. With curly hair, it's easy to dry out that way. Wring it out or pat dry. Next, you will want to apply a leave in conditioner, no specific brand. The focus here is to condition the hair and alleviate the tangles. Once applied, do not brush your hair, comb it with a wide toothed comb. Brushing curly hair, especially when wet stretches it out and is more easy to break and damage. Then apply your styling product. Try and look for something water soluble to keep from the product building up on your hair. Two main ingredients you will want to look for is METHYL GLUCCETH-20 which is a naturally derived water soluble emollient, humectant and moisturizer and POLYSORBATE-20, a naturally derived emulsifier and solubilizer to facilitate the coupling of water soluble with water insoluble ingredients in the formulation.

Now, the difference between gel and mousse is the over all outcome. Gel is heavy but intended for more control over your curls. Mousse is intended to make your hair lighter with little control. One problem we encounter when styling with a Gel product is that hard, crunchy feel. To bypass that, try sectioning your hair instead of just throwing the gel in and scrunching it. Doing so will just make it frizzy. Try sectioning into 4. Then you will want to apply the gel section by section from root to ends. Make sure to evenly distribute the gel. Comb the gel in with your fingers, the better you apply and evenly distribute, the more control you will have over your curls. Instead of scrunching, place the hair in the palm of your hand and just fluff it up. Once done, stop touching! The more you play with it, the greater chance you have of creating frizz; motion creates frizz.

If you have a diffuser, diffuse until it's about 80% dry. This helps to enhance the curls. Once the hair is 100% dry, then you can go ahead and make any adjustements or toss it around.

If you still have too much "crunch" try pinching the hair. Running your fingers through it may produce frizz. You can also try placing your palms on your forehead then run your palms down your hair as if you were going to flatten out to create a ponytail. Then, twist the ponytail part in one direction and let go. This should minimize the crunch and give it a more natural, soft look.

I will make a video on this over the weekend!

Peace!

DOTS Haul!

Here, I bought some shirts from DOTS. As you can see, a few of the shirts have very short sleeves and can seem a bit low cut. For those who do not want to leave the comfort zone just yet, these shirts would look great with some layers. Add a long sleeved or 3/4 length shirt underneath in the same color or go for that WOW factor and get a pair of funky colored shoes with the under shirt to match! Add some accessories and your as good as gold!

These are also some accessories I purchased as well. Enjoy!

Peace and Love!

A little intro

So first off, I'm sure my name is going to bring up that one and only question; What does it mean?

Per http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=funkadelik
1. funkadelik

derived from funky and trippidelik. used to describe something odd and trippy or just awesome.

While on drugs, everything seems funkidelik <----- LOL, interesting example

No, its not a nickname that was given to me. I chose this name as is clearly describes who I am and fits my personality =)

Now, a little bit about me. I'm not going to start out with my birthplace and do a mini version of an autobiography. I'm fast forwarding and going straight to who I am now and why I am the way I am.

All my life, I was the fat girl with the big glasses and no style. I envied the models in the magazines, superstars and the girls at my school who were considered "popular." Now that I look back on it all and see what the world is really like out there, to those that I did envy, I say "screw you!" Why should I base my entire being on some super star who has a nice body and layers on make up like its cake because they simply are not attractive? Why should I hide my body because I have a few extra pounds? If these women with ugly faces can hide behind their bodies, why can't I hide my body behind my face? I'm not saying I'm drop dead gorgeous and in no way am I conceited, but I could run laps around some of these females in today's media. We all have our flaws, but that's what makes us equal individuals. And because of that, I am no longer going to hide behind my weight. I'm going to embrace it and I want to show everyone my inner beauty as well as my style. This is why I decided to blog. I can step up and show other females and even males out there who feel the same way I used to feel get out of that shell and flaunt your own beauty.

In my blogs, I will show you how to obtain a look of your own, that makes you feel comfortable. I will stay within the "comfort zone" but I will leave it every so often. My goal is to help others create an identity. I will show you tips and tricks but its up to you to make it your own.

I will most likely create a YouTube channel as well. So be on the look out.

Nobody is perfect and no one person knows everything, but were all here to learn from each other. I will show you what I know and I greatly appreciate and accept any feedback you all want to provide me with. Life is a learning process. What I learn I teach and what I don't already know, I will seek the answer for and share.

A little about my style... Well, it's pretty hard to put down in words. I like everything from bright and vibrant to dark and dreary, depends on the mood I'm in that day =)

Keep following and you will get to see sneak peaks if just what I'm saying.

Peace!
