December Update To End 2009

So, the year is finally coming to an end and I hope that 2010 is filled with happier and brighter days.

2009 started off a bit rocky as I lost a good friend due to lies that were spread and her ego getting in the way of apologizing when it was obvious she was in the wrong and jumped to conclusions.

The one year anniversary of my grandfathers death was a lot easier than I thought it would be on my family. My dad did drink to ease the pain but contained himself, the love and support we gave him helped.

The summer months were pretty bad for me. Financially, I sank and I'm still struggling to stay afloat, but able to breathe.

Hubby and I have been trying to have a baby, but its kinda hard when I have not had a visit from Mother Nature in a couple of months. It's been a little bit frustrating but we'll get through this. It's probably just not meant to be right now. And who am I kidding? In economic times like today, it's pretty selfish of me to want one right now. When the time is right, it will happen.

Right now, I'm fairly comfortable where I am. I'm patiently waiting my income tax return so that I can get my brakes fixed and get a new hubcap for my car. Before my car got effed up, I was planning on using the money to get back into school, but it looks like that will have to wait, yet again. I just don't understand how I am not capable of getting financial aid. I am no longer considered a dependent of my parents and have been living on my own for 6 years now making less than 30k a year. I will probably never understand but whatever...

The good: I started on youtube and learned an interest I never knew I had. Still breaking out of my shell but def more comfortable with myself and I feel I have a bit more confidence than before. I have gained many new friends and have become sponsored by an amazing new company breaking into the makeup world. Raving Beauty Cosmetics is by far, the best mineral eyeshadow I have used and I feel honored to be a part of it.

I am also reviewing a diet pill. Well, it's not really a diet pill but more like an herbal food supplement to suppress my hunger. I didn't follow directions last time and hope this time, I will and see some hard core results. I decided I will wait until after the holidays before I start again. More to come on that.

OK, well I am going to end this little tid bit for now. Sitting here at work and while were slower than a tortoise, I just done have much to chat about right now. Gonna surf the net and see what else I can find and learn =)

Happy Holidays!

Li Da Daidaihua Weight Loss Supplements

http://lidaloseweight.com/

So, I started a new weight loss supplement that I vlogged about on my youtube channel (www.youtube.com/funkadelik85) called Lida Dali. These pills are a weight loss supplement made of 100% all natural Chinese herbs. The herbs are known to only grow in "Kingdom of Green Vegetation"Yunnan province. A box from the site is $50 which includes free shipping. It comes with 30 capsules (one month supply) and you take one every morning after breakfast. It is very VERY important you eat a good breakfast and you eat lunch and dinner. If you skip meals, the pills will have nothing in your body to break it down which helps you lose weight. Of course, some type of work out is required. For me, I walk, nothing too drastic. You also want to drink plenty of water (as you should normally do to remain healthy from the inside out) and eat more fruit than normal. It is also recommended you don't drink alcohol while taking the pill as it may neutralize the effect it has on your weight loss process....

OK, now that I'm done talking about the pill (any more info you may need or want can be found at the link above) I'm going to talk more about how the supplement pills have affected me. Since I started, I have not had any negative side affects. A few years ago I tried Hydroxicut and Release. They both made me feel weird and I got sick from just a couple days of taking them. With Li Da, I have yet to have that "weird" feeling and I actually forget I'm taking them. I have noticed a decrease in my appetite and not feeling so tired all the time. This weekend, I didnt even think about food and I actually skipped a couple of meals (actually, I think I only ate 2 meals the entire weekend bc my stomach wasnt growling). I've also noticed I'm not as tired as I normally am. I can wake up after only about 4 or 5 hours of sleep and feel completely rested, compared to having to get at least 8 or 9 hours just before taking them. The one negative side effect I have come accross is dry mouth, which is not that big of a deal, I just drink more water. However, at my job, we are going through Annual Enrollment for benefits elections and I am talking more than normal with explaining the benefits, so that could very well play a part in my recent dry mouth, or it could also be contributing to the side affect of taking the pills... Either way, compared to most side affects on other pills, dry mouth is in no way comparable...

I will do a weigh in after 7 days and every week after that. I'm only doing a month right now, and hopefully if I see physical results and feel even better than I do now, will continue.

Keep posted for more updates!

Peace!

How To Eat Your Way To Healthy Nails

Healthy nails appear smooth, without ridges or grooves. They are uniform in color and consistency and free of spots or discoloration. Ridges or spots in the nail bed can often indicate a nutritional deficiency. Discoloration of the nails, such as a green or yellow color, can be an indication of something more serious, like chronic bronchitis. Like I said in my previous posts, you are what you eat. It shows in your hair, skin and even nails!

Try eating more walnuts and almonds to help maintain better nails. They have Omega-3, which as you know by now is a necessary fatty acid for over all health. Fatty acids in nails makes them stronger as less prone to splitting.

You also want wheats in your diet. Wheats contain iron which is great for healthy nails. You also want to include meat, eggs, dark veggies and legumes into your diet as more source of protein. The more the better, but like everything else, do not overdue it.

Your nails are made up of the same protein found on your skin and hair; keratin. Lack of protein takes away the layers of this protein like an onion. Slowly start to peel it away and your left with virtually nothing, thats why unhealthy nails break so easy. They don't have enough protective layers for strength. It is recommended that women eat, on average, 4-6 ounces of protein per meal. Men need just a bit more at 5-7 ounces.

The point is; eating better not only improves your metabolism and energy, it also improves your appearance such as losing weight and maintaining it at a healthy level, skin, hair and nails!

That's all I have to say for now. When I come across more helpful info, I will not hesitate to share.

Peace!

10 Foods for Healthy Beautiful Hair

We think that because there is a product for virtually everything we can be lazy and let the products do the work for us.... Oh how wrong we are. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is only complete when you take care of yourself. Yes, vitamin supplements and such do help, but sometimes can do more harm than good. Too much is bad for you.... Supplements should be just that; supplement! Too many people have become lazy and pop supplements like its candy. Too much can become harmful to your body. You need to eat as organically and healthy as possible. If you have to use supplements, keep in mind, while all supplements use the same minerals, they are created differently. You have man made supplements and all natural supplements. Man made supplements are those that are blended together with other products to make, well, the supplement. But there are all natural supplements with its products grown like Living Food Concentrates. So, if you have to take a supplement, make sure it is indeed an all natural supplement.

However, like I was trying to say, but started rambling like I always do, you want to eat all natural foods. Some of the top ten foods for maintaing and keeping healthy hair are:

Salmon - Salmon is rich in Fatty acids, Omega-3, protein, iron and high in B-12. Salmon moisturizes the scalp, in turn, a healthy moisturized scalp prevents dandruff and produces healthy looking hair thats not dry.

Dark Green Veggies - Rich in Vit A & C, green veggies produce an oily substance called sebum. Subum is your hairs natural conditioner that comes from your hair follicles.

Beans - Kidney and pinto beans are a great source of iron, zinc and biotin which aids at hair growth.

Nuts - Walnuts, pecans, cashews, brazil nuts and almonds are a great source of zinc, fatty acids and Omega-3 condition and make your hair shiny and thick. Brazil nuts also help produce selenium which is great for your scalp.

Poultry - Great source of protein. A good amount of protein also plays an important role in your hair color. If you want rich and vibrant color, add more protein.

Eggs - Contain protein, biotin and B-12

Whole Grains - Zinc, iron and B vitamins. Whole grains are natures energy source. Feeling down and lazy? Have some whole grains and it will boost up your energy level.

Oysters - With its powerful source of zinc, a great antioxidant, your hair will forever thank you!

Carrots - With all its Vit A, you will maintain a healthy scalp and well conditioned hair.

Low Fat Dairy Products - Rich in calcium, this mineral is a great source for hair growth.

Eat Your Way To Healthy Skin and Hair

So, I recently did a video on YT about this and thought I would put all the information I found in one post that would be available to everyone.

One thing you want to include in your diet which benefits BOTH hair and skin is fish. Fish contains fatty acids which is good for your hair because thats what brings in the shine and keeps it in and protein which feeds into the protein thats already in your hair. It also slows down hair fallout. Fatty acids are a necessity for skin cell function and create a protective barrier on your skin and give you a nice and healthy glow. That barrier keeps in moisture which makes skin look young and healthy. Lack of fatty acids can result in cracked skin, thick skin patches and eczema. One common fatty acid is Omega-3. You can find many products now a days which claim they contain Omega-3, so keep a look out for those. Any product that contains it is a good thing. Fish is high in protein and Omega-3.

Now, for those of you that are not fond of fish, you can always use a supplement. Flax seed Oil and Fish Oil both contain Omega-3 and make great supplements. You can just add a couple of drops to any food and you're good to go. I have never tried it because I like fish, so I'm not sure what it tastes like, if theres even a taste at all. Omega-3 is also essential in stronger and healthier nails!

Other supplements of Omega-3 are walnuts, pumpkin seeds, olive oil, cabbage, broccoli, kidney beans, squash and soybeans. For those of you that like fish; salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring and trout fish are great sources of Omega-3.

You really are what you eat!

Skin:

Skin absorbs what you eat and uses it for or against your skin. Eating the right and healthy foods plays in your favor FOR your skin. When you eat healthy foods, your skin will mirror that and provide you with a natural and healthy glow. Not eating also shows making your skin look old and dry. So, if you intend in starving yourself to death to lose weight, well, yeah you may eventually lose that weight and your figure may slim down, but your skin will over time diminish and eventually play against you. No one wants to caress their loved one and see flakes of skin fall off or be with someone that looks 60 when their really in their 40's. No it won't show right away but after some years of mistreating your body, your body will return the "favor."

So do yourself a favor, as well as your body and maintain a balanced diet. When eating dairy products, stick with low in fat dairy. Healthy skin is based on many vitamins and minerals, one of them being Vitamin A. Low fat dairy products are high and rich in Vit A. Try low fat yogurt. Not only is it high and rich in Vit A but also acidophiles. Acidophiles is known as the "live" bacteria in your body which is good for intestinal health. Like what I've been trying to say, anything you put in your body reflects the outside of your body.

You also want foods high in antioxidants. Blueberries, strawberries, blackberries and plums contain just that. Why is it that you want foods high in antioxidants, well, for those of you that sun bathe or go to tanning beds, it will protect your skins cells. So for those of you that can't seem to stay away from the UV Rays, antioxidants may slow down the aging and skin cancer process that those harmful UV's do to you. You can also add artichokes, beans (pinto, black and red), pecans and prunes which also contain a good amount of antioxidants.

Oils are also good for your skin. Oils to look for are extra virgin, cold pressed or expeller pressed. Try to get about 2 tablespoons a day.

Whole wheat, muffins, cereal, tuna, turkey and brazil nuts contain a mineral called selenium. Selenium is essential and important in maintaining healthy skin cells. Healthy skin cells help in lowering your risk for cancer. Minerals such as selenium, copper along with Vitamin A & E prevent the cell in your skin that forms sunburns! Whole grains also affect the insulin levels that cause acne break outs.

Green Tea!! I LOVE tea of all kinds, but can't get enough of green tea. Not only does it contain antioxidants, but it also contains anti-inflammatory properties that protect cell membrane which reduce and can even prevent the risk of skin cancer. Whether you apply green tea directly to your skin or drink it, you greatly reduce the damage from the UV rays.

I saved the most important thing for last.... WATER!!! It's vital that your drink 6-8 8oz glasses a day. Water hydrates your body so your skin is less likely to dry up and maintain moisture. It also cleanses your body of all the nasty ickiness that you put into it. Some people may think filtered water is better for you but its not (except for those of you with well or reserved water like me). When you filter water, your taking out all the natural minerals that is in water that feeds into your skin that helps cells move nutrients that keep bad toxins out.

Also, some think bottled water is bad for you because bottled water contains products it should not or its just tap water.... WRONG! Bottled water is water from the community that the company plant is located at. It is filtered using a process called reverse osmosis which purifies the water. Once purified, it is then enhanced with minerals for a pure fresh taste. I know this because I work for a bottling company that bottles water. So no I'm not pulling info out my rear just because of something I read.

HAIR

What you put into your body also has a great affect on your hair. For example, a lack of fatty acids cause hair to become dry and brittle, breaking easily. Adding fatty acids to your diet will bring back strength and shine. Water helps maintain the moisture in your hair as well.

A lack of whole grains, leafy green veggies, nuts, dairy and eggs help fight against oily hair. Oily hair is due to a lack of Vitamin B. Add some vitamin B into your diet and you can start saying bye bye to oily hair. No it will not make your hair dry, but it will bring in the right amount of moisture to keep it healthy. Also, stay away from greasy foods like fast food and fried foods. All those oils do not help out.

Red meat, eggs, legumes, wholegrain, dried fruit and green leafy veggies are rich in iron and Vitamin E. Thin hair is a result of iron deficiency and a lack of Vit E.

High protein foods such as red meat, eggs, cheese, seeds and nuts reinforce hair follicles to prevent hair fall out.

If you have thyroid issues like my sister, eat foods rich in iodine like seafood and kelp. That helps out to decrease the thinning process and build stronger, fuller hair.

Since hair is mainly made up of protein, you want a healthy high in protein diet with vitamins A, B, C, E and K.

Vitamin A - Carrots, sweet potatoes, squash, broccoli, cantaloupe and apricots.
Vitamin B - Green vegetables, beans, sunflower seeds, nuts and peas.
Vitamin C - Citrus fruits like oranges, lemons, limes, melons and berries.
Vitamin E - Avocados, rice bran, nuts, dark green vegetables, legumes and whole grains.
Vitamin K - Seafood, dairy, figs, asparagus, broccoli, lettuce, brussel sprouts, cabbage, dark green leafy vegetables, oatmeal, soybeans, wheat, yogurt, egg yolks and liver.

HOPE THIS HELPS!!!

Peace!

CHI and Proclaim Review Diffused

OK, so I tried out the CHI silk with the Proclaim Olive Oil Wrap. Then I diffused my hair. In the pics, my hair was diffused to about 80%, then I let it air dry. From the pic, it looks like its wet and crunchy, but its dry and soft! I was in a rush bc it's super late and I need to get to bed, so there is frizz, but over time, after working with the products, I'm sure I'll get it to the "T' and control that damn frizz!

I have also added a video review on YouTube!

berrybutter.com Tips for Healthy & Radiant Skin

1. Commit to a twice daily regimen - Cleanse your face every morning and night. In the morning, you are washing off the residue of the cell renewal process, which occurs primarily at night. In the evening, you're cleansing off the day's effects on your skin, including exposure to pollution, sun, and wind.

2. Moisture up! – Even those with oily or combination skin need to moisturize. So drink up! Water is hydration for your skin inside and out. Drink at least 6 glasses per day to reveal beautiful, healthy, and hydrated skin. Don’t forget the unrefined Shea butter. It won’t clog your pores and it’s probably the best moisturizer available. And it’s natural!

3. Be gentle- Always use a light touch on your face. If you're used to rubbing your face or eyes vigorously (if you have allergies, itchy eyes or sensitive skin) you could be aggravating a condition. The skin on your face is very delicate, and the skin under your eyes is the most delicate of all! Never rub under your eyes. If they itch, try a cold compress or washcloth to relieve them.

4. Exercise your Organ- Cardiovascular excercise and strength training exercises burn fat and help tone the body. Perspiring releases toxins from the pores that could otherwise cause breakouts. You may notice younger looking eyes and firmer skin.

5. Your skin is what you eat- Avoid foods high in sugar like sodas and candy to stay clear of breakouts. And don’t forget about the rest of the body; you may have noticed acne on your other parts. Sugar is also a good one to avoid if you’re slimming down for summer.

6. Feed your Face- Foods like avocados, peaches, mangos, and almonds contain skin rejuvenating nutrients like niacin, vitamin A, vitamin E, and riboflavin.

7. Don’t skimp on the Zzz’s- Cell repair and regeneration performed by the body's systems happens when you are at rest. Hence the term, "beauty sleep". Find the right sleep balance for you by tracking how you feel after 4-6 hours rest versus 6-8 hours rest over a weeks period. When you feel your best for an extended period, that may be the right amount of sleep for you. Another tip, wind down a bit before bed so you can fall asleep easily and rest completely.

8. Hands OFF! - Our hands come in contact with all sorts of germs and bacteria. Transferring them onto the face and into the skin may cause infection, breakout or rash. And remember, picking scabs and popping pimples is a no-no to keep the skin from scarring.

9. Reveal flawless possibilities- Shea butter is a great treatment to lighten acne scars and other dark areas.. Use twice a day on dry or blemished areas. It’s also high in omega 3 fats which are essential for the body. Omega 3’s improve the elasticity and moisture quality of the skin.

10. No lipstick on the pillow- Did you know that you age your skin 27 days every time you don't wash off accumulated dirt, makeup and environmental "stuff" at night? Remove your makeup thoroughly, wash with a gentle foaming cleanser, apply toner or astringent if necessary, and put on a good night cream to absorb in the skin for a fresh, supple face in the morning.

11. Smoking and caffeine cause dry skin- Tests show that caffeine has no direct effect on your skin, but it does deplete water from the body. Smoking decreases circulation so the skin doesn't get as much oxygen--which is essential in creating and maintaining healthy skin cells and youthful skin. In addition, the repetitive eye squinting and pursing of the lips while you smoke can cause premature wrinkling around the eyes and the mouth.

Hope this was helpful!

Review

So, I tried out the diffuser and CHI Silk Infusion last night. The CHI silk infusion, I used on my hair to straighten and it made it very smooth and yes, silky. I want to work with it more on my natural curls this weekend. The diffuser, WOW! It dried my hair without getting frizzy. It took me a while to get used to it, but once I did, amazing outcome. But again, I want to work with it more, get used to it, learn tricks and stuff before I go ahead and rate on the items. This is just a brief review of the first day of use. I have no complaints besides the fact the CHI serum is very expensive and with my hair so long and thick, I have to use a little more than whats recommended. That is going to run out pretty fast, but as of right now, I think its very well worth it =)

OK, so today is Friday, WOOHOO!! That means no work and all play makes FunkADelik85 a happy girl!

Happy Friday!

Causes of Frizz & How To Control it

Unfortunetaly, for those of us with naturally curly hair, it's dry by nature. We constantly need to maintain it by replenishing the moisture. When hair has no moisture, it goes in "search" of it, resulting in frizz. Frizzy hair is essentially empty hair. The bonds inside the hair shaft are disconnected. You need to connect those bonds with a combination of protein and moisture. Adding moisture and protein to your hair will help fill in the holes inside your hair shaft, making your hair less frizzy.

Conditioning is the main key to eliminating that frizz. When your hair has all the nutrients it needs, it will take on its own natural bounce and shine. You'll see more control in your curl and the frizz will be minimized. You will want to start out by giving it a good deep treatment. For really dry or frizzy hair, you will want to do this at least once every two weeks. Deep treatment works on the inner structure of your hair, filling in the "holes" in the hair shaft. Once those holes are filled in, your hair should lie down and not fly away as much. Because deep treatments start from the inside out, you won't see results right away. You will want to give it a good month, possibly longer to see any results. Along with the deep treatment, use a leave in conditioner on your hair every time you wash it. This will help detangle and condition those curls. Then, follow up with a good water soluble gel (as mentioned in my previous post).

Please, make sure you avoid hot oil treatments. Hot oil only coats the outer layer of your hair, it does nothing for the inner shaft, which is what causes frizz.

OK, so now a few rules, tool, tips and tricks!

1) Never brush your hair when it's dry. Doing so disrupts that curl pattern making it big, poofy and frizzy. Comb your hair only when its wet with a wide toothed comb.

2) Do not wash with shampoo everyday. You only want to rinse and condition everyday. Shampoo takes the moisture out. Try to shampoo twice a week. If you have an oily scalp, you can do more, but only when you feel its needed.

3) Pull your hair back in a cloth scrunchie or section hair and twist on the top of your head so your sleeping on the under curls. Keeping it together maintains the curls.

4) When its windy out, put your hair up. No amount of product will withstand wind. Leaving your hair down will only tangle your hair and toss it around.

Here is a GREAT article I found!!

Hope this helps!

FunkADelik85

Tips and Tricks for Curly Hair

Hair styling routine.
Here is a preferred way to style your hair:
After you get out the shower, I would recommend not wrapping it up in a towel. With curly hair, it's easy to dry out that way. Wring it out or pat dry. Next, you will want to apply a leave in conditioner, no specific brand. The focus here is to condition the hair and alleviate the tangles. Once applied, do not brush your hair, comb it with a wide toothed comb. Brushing curly hair, especially when wet stretches it out and is more easy to break and damage. Then apply your styling product. Try and look for something water soluble to keep from the product building up on your hair. Two main ingredients you will want to look for is METHYL GLUCCETH-20 which is a naturally derived water soluble emollient, humectant and moisturizer and POLYSORBATE-20, a naturally derived emulsifier and solubilizer to facilitate the coupling of water soluble with water insoluble ingredients in the formulation.

Now, the difference between gel and mousse is the over all outcome. Gel is heavy but intended for more control over your curls. Mousse is intended to make your hair lighter with little control. One problem we encounter when styling with a Gel product is that hard, crunchy feel. To bypass that, try sectioning your hair instead of just throwing the gel in and scrunching it. Doing so will just make it frizzy. Try sectioning into 4. Then you will want to apply the gel section by section from root to ends. Make sure to evenly distribute the gel. Comb the gel in with your fingers, the better you apply and evenly distribute, the more control you will have over your curls. Instead of scrunching, place the hair in the palm of your hand and just fluff it up. Once done, stop touching! The more you play with it, the greater chance you have of creating frizz; motion creates frizz.

If you have a diffuser, diffuse until it's about 80% dry. This helps to enhance the curls. Once the hair is 100% dry, then you can go ahead and make any adjustements or toss it around.

If you still have too much "crunch" try pinching the hair. Running your fingers through it may produce frizz. You can also try placing your palms on your forehead then run your palms down your hair as if you were going to flatten out to create a ponytail. Then, twist the ponytail part in one direction and let go. This should minimize the crunch and give it a more natural, soft look.

I will make a video on this over the weekend!

Peace!

DOTS Haul!

Here, I bought some shirts from DOTS. As you can see, a few of the shirts have very short sleeves and can seem a bit low cut. For those who do not want to leave the comfort zone just yet, these shirts would look great with some layers. Add a long sleeved or 3/4 length shirt underneath in the same color or go for that WOW factor and get a pair of funky colored shoes with the under shirt to match! Add some accessories and your as good as gold!

These are also some accessories I purchased as well. Enjoy!

Peace and Love!

FunkADelik85

A little intro

So first off, I'm sure my name is going to bring up that one and only question; What does it mean?

Per http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=funkadelik
1. funkadelik

derived from funky and trippidelik. used to describe something odd and trippy or just awesome.

While on drugs, everything seems funkidelik <----- LOL, interesting example

No, its not a nickname that was given to me. I chose this name as is clearly describes who I am and fits my personality =)

Now, a little bit about me. I'm not going to start out with my birthplace and do a mini version of an autobiography. I'm fast forwarding and going straight to who I am now and why I am the way I am.

All my life, I was the fat girl with the big glasses and no style. I envied the models in the magazines, superstars and the girls at my school who were considered "popular." Now that I look back on it all and see what the world is really like out there, to those that I did envy, I say "screw you!" Why should I base my entire being on some super star who has a nice body and layers on make up like its cake because they simply are not attractive? Why should I hide my body because I have a few extra pounds? If these women with ugly faces can hide behind their bodies, why can't I hide my body behind my face? I'm not saying I'm drop dead gorgeous and in no way am I conceited, but I could run laps around some of these females in today's media. We all have our flaws, but that's what makes us equal individuals. And because of that, I am no longer going to hide behind my weight. I'm going to embrace it and I want to show everyone my inner beauty as well as my style. This is why I decided to blog. I can step up and show other females and even males out there who feel the same way I used to feel get out of that shell and flaunt your own beauty.

In my blogs, I will show you how to obtain a look of your own, that makes you feel comfortable. I will stay within the "comfort zone" but I will leave it every so often. My goal is to help others create an identity. I will show you tips and tricks but its up to you to make it your own.

I will most likely create a YouTube channel as well. So be on the look out.

Nobody is perfect and no one person knows everything, but were all here to learn from each other. I will show you what I know and I greatly appreciate and accept any feedback you all want to provide me with. Life is a learning process. What I learn I teach and what I don't already know, I will seek the answer for and share.

A little about my style... Well, it's pretty hard to put down in words. I like everything from bright and vibrant to dark and dreary, depends on the mood I'm in that day =)

Keep following and you will get to see sneak peaks if just what I'm saying.

Peace!
